Generation of Near Real-Time Geodetic-Geophysical Products (DGFI)

Based on the terrestrial and celestial reference frame resulting from the multi-year solutions of WP4000, consistent time series of all essential geodetic-geophysical parameter types are generated starting from the homogeneous observation time series (see WP3000). This is performed for the time series of the individual techniques, i.e. SLR, VLBI, GPS, LEO and altimetry (WP5100-WP5500), as well as for the time series generated from a combination of all space techniques (WP5600). The following time series are the result of these work packages:

  • Quasar coordinates (variations with time)
  • Station coordinates of all techniques (especially for co-location sites)
  • Earth orientation parameters of all techniques (nutation, UT1-UTC and polar motion, as well as sub-daily Earth rotation parameters)
  • Low-degree coefficients of the Earth's gravity field (including geocenter)
  • Troposphere zenith delays and gradients

All these time series are analyzed in detail, diverse comparisons between the corresponding time series of different software packages and different observation techniques are performed. Of course, also the rigorously combined time series of WP5600 will be compared with those of the individual techniques and interpreted. It is a goal of this project to push these developments to the point, that such time series of geodetic-geophysical quantities may be generated in an operational and near real-time mode later. All the time series will be made available to the public through the data management and information system. Because of their homogeneity and consistency, these time series will be of considerable interest to the scientific community and will find applications in geodesy, geodynamics, geophysics, atmosphere and climate studies, mass balance, etc.
